The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic specializes in the accurate diagnosis, treatment, growth, nutrition, and dietary counseling of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and intestinal Behcet's disease. Our goal is to help children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease who develop the disease at a young age live a healthy and happy life, both physically and mentally, and to prepare them for adulthood.
Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic intestinal condition in which the gastrointestinal tract becomes inflamed and ulcerated. It can cause chronic abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody stools, weight loss, stunted growth, and even fistulas in the anus. Inflammatory bowel disease in children and adolescents is often more severe than in adults, has a larger area of involvement, and progresses rapidly, often requiring surgery such as bowel resection. It is also often accompanied by stunted growth and depression due to the nature of childhood and puberty. At the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic, we strive to prevent the disease from worsening, prevent surgery, and lead a healthy and stable life through early diagnosis and appropriate patient-customized treatment.
Since the opening of the Children's Hospital, a multidisciplinary approach and consultative care (pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric surgery, pediatric radiology, pediatric pathology, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric nephrology, pediatric ophthalmology, pediatric dermatology, pediatric nutrition, etc. When maintaining treatment with biologic therapeutic agents, drug concentration measurements are used to maintain adequate therapeutic effectiveness, and when response to treatment declines, antibodies to the therapeutic agent are measured to determine biologic agent changes. We provide the most up-to-date tests and treatments, including pediatric-specific upper and lower endoscopy, small bowel MRI, capsule endoscopy, gut microbiota analysis, and fecal microbiota transplantation.
The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic at Kyungpook National University Children's Hospital continues to publish internationally recognized research results in the field of inflammatory bowel disease, helping to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment. We will do our best to become a children's hospital that can provide world-class medical care in Korea, and to improve the quality of life for children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease.
