Introduction
Hello, this is the Pediatric Palliative Care Center at Kyungpook National University Children's Hospital.
The Pediatric Palliative Care Center is divided into the Pediatric Palliative Care Team and the Critical Care Home Healthcare Team, and has been operating consultative pediatric palliative care and critical care home healthcare as a pilot project since January 2019.
Pediatric palliative care is an integrated medical service provided by a palliative care team that aims to reduce the symptoms, discomfort, and stress experienced by pediatric patients and their families during the treatment process and improve their quality of life for pediatric patients up to the age of 24 who are being treated for serious, rare, and challenging illnesses, and can provide services such as pain control and symptom management, psychosocial support, communication support, and discharge support.
Pediatric palliative care teams focus on making patients and families more comfortable and enjoyable during the treatment process, and pediatric patients and families can access palliative care at any time during the treatment process, regardless of diagnosis or stage of illness. Palliative care services do not mean an interruption of existing treatment, and the pediatric palliative care team works with the medical team and provides services in conjunction with existing care to provide better treatment and care for patients and families.
For critically ill pediatric patients up to 18 years of age who need home health care, the home health care team develops a home health care management plan and provides ongoing, comprehensive medical care through home visits, including medical, nursing, and rehabilitation therapy, as well as round-the-clock patient management (telephone consultation).
The pediatric home healthcare team is committed to providing integrated medical care to critically ill pediatric patients at home to promote the growth and development of critically ill children and adolescents and contribute to improving the quality of life of their families.
The Pediatric Palliative Care Center is here to provide medical support and a little comfort to patients and families who are being treated for life-threatening conditions.
