Status information
The High-Risk Maternal and Neonatal Integrated Care Center at Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital was designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in March 2018. It serves as a central facility for maternal and child healthcare in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, with the primary goal of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates. The center is divided into two main units: the High-Risk Maternal-Fetal Care Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
In the High-Risk Maternal-Fetal Care Unit, specialists are dedicated to both outpatient and inpatient care. A 24-hour on-call system ensures that obstetric emergencies in the wards and delivery rooms are promptly handled by attending physicians. Additionally, a round-the-clock anesthesiology team enables rapid response in the event of emergency surgeries during delivery.
The unit is equipped with 6 Maternal-Fetal Intensive Care Unit (MFICU) beds, an operating room and recovery room located within the delivery suite. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit operates 31 beds and collaborates closely with various pediatric subspecialty departments to provide comprehensive care.
Over 50% of annual deliveries involve high-risk pregnancies complicated by conditions such as preterm labor, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, maternal internal diseases, or fetal congenital anomalies. The center is committed to managing these high-risk pregnancies to ensure safe deliveries.
The Neonatal Care Unit, designated as a Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Center by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2017, continues to provide high-level care for critically ill newborns in the region. With skilled medical personnel and advanced treatment capabilities, the unit plays a pivotal role in neonatal healthcare.
